Course IV · Months 10 to 12

Act, and answer for it.

Act with no more force than the moment requires. Three months of practice in Courage, Steadfastness and Transmission: one consequential move, steps small enough to keep, and something passed on.

The course

Knowing becomes wisdom in the doing.

Knowing is not the same as having a capacity available when it matters. Accomplished people often protect their record by attempting less, and a record kept that way stops asking anything of them.

The fourth course asks for the act: one consequential move under pressure, then steps small enough to keep on the worst days, then something passed on to the next person. The year closes at a threshold, as it opened.

Month 10 · Courage

Knowing becomes wisdom in the doing, and sometimes in the restraint.

The practice

One consequential action under pressure, with no more force than the moment requires. For the month, count attempts.

The weekly question

What did I do, what did I hold back from doing, and was the force right for the moment?

Month 11 · Steadfastness

Small, sure steps, kept for a year.

The practice

Keep the Minimum on the hardest days. After a miss, return the next day. Make one repair.

The weekly question

What small step did I take, and what did I skip because it felt too small?

Month 12 · Transmission

What you received is yours to pass on.

The practice

Teach one thing from your year. Hold the estate and giving conversation, digital accounts included. Complete one piece of unfinished business. Read the December Ledger against your baseline.

The weekly question

What did I pass on this week, and to whom?
